Hi! I saw some traffic from your blog and came to check it out. Thanks for pointing out our paintchip ornaments! I love to come up with fun things to use them for instead of just throwing them in the trash. What a fun group of items!

Love the ideas, but have to say that even though paint chips are free, if everyone starts taking them to do projects the paint companies are going to have to make up the cost of them somewhere – so there go paint prices up, up and up!!
bargain hoot says
Shelly, I know what you mean. I’m not sure what to think…there has to be a balance.
On the plus side, the stores might think of it as free advertisement.

I was thinking you could ask the hardware/home improvement companies what they do with the paint chips when they get new ones from the paint companies. If they are thrown away, then you are saving them from the landfills!
bargain hoot says
Good idea Barb!!

I absolutely love paint chip crafts. I don’t love that people sell them when they get them for free but it’s costing the company money to have them out.
Vikki says
I love this…. There are some great ideas. I want to try the headboard one!

Michelle says
Oh thanks for putting all these ideas together, I’m amazed by the creativeness of people. Like others I’ve always thrown these away or at least recycled them, but not any more, I shall use them to decorate after all they do match the colour scheme!
Deborah says
And here I thought I was so smart just using them as bookmarks..LOL!

Thanks for the ideas!!!muakkk

You are welcome!! Hope they inspire some creativity 🙂

Pardon, but doesn’t using all these ‘free’ paint chips end up costing the paint buying consumer down the line? I don’t know exactly how one gets them, except to pick them up in a store. It just seems strange to me.
Laura says
Cool ideas! I think you have to use your common sense like with everything else.. If you or someone you know have paint chips lying around from previous redecorating exploits these are great ways to up-cycle them but you probably wouldn’t go to the store and collect armfuls. That would defeat the purpose I guess 🙂 Great post
bargain hoot says
Laura, I totally agree with you!!! Thank you for taking the time to comment!! I love hearing from readers!!!
Jody says
OMG, I can’t believe all the crazy talk on here about paint chips! I hardly think there is going to be a run on paint chips to the point where stores are going to have to hire security just for the paint section. Most people are too lazy to craft in the first place. The paint companies make so many of these things every home in American could have a stash and it would mean nothing to them. To think that the cost of paint is going to go up because of an increase in paint chip consumption is just plain nonsense! They are cheap, just like plastic bags. Enjoy them and stop worrying about things you have no control over ladies!

I love the ART one with circles. What did you use to get different size circles? Did you use stamping tools or did you cut them out by hand?
bargain hoot says
Hi Teri,
It was made with 3 different circle punches. Go here for more information. http://the3rsblog.wordpress.com/2011/05/08/project-30-week-30-circular-paint-chip-art/

Hi, I am a retired public school Art Teacher. I sooo loved your paint chip ideas! I still teach privately and like to teach the children and adults how to make boxes . We also like to make boxes from colored paper rolled with a paint roller with designs. They especially liked the heart motifs . They would put a love message inside the boxes made with the heart roller. Thanks again, Ann
jennifer says
Free to you, sort of stealing if you don’t plan to buy the paint!
bargain hoot says
I can see what you mean jennifer. I don’t feel guilty because I buy tons of paint.
