Bathroom Overhaul Part 1

January 19, 2012

I’ve been so busy lately….. I don’t know where the time goes.

Some really good news is that our upstairs bathroom is getting a much needed overhaul!!

In a strange way….I enjoy the sound of sawing and pounding…it means something is getting done!

Here’s a look at the changes that are taking place.

Horizontal boards are being added over top of the old wall paper. When we first moved in

we removed a ton of wall paper. It was never primed underneath so it was a bear to get off.

Instead of trying to get this “stuck like glue” paper off….. we’re going right over top of it.

Here’s a little look at the before. Notice the old vinyl wall paper with the pink flamingos?

Some progress…..

To be continued…..

It looks so good already! That paneling adds such a nice rustic but still modern vibe – I love that it’s horizontal. Did you just use the panel sheets they sell at big box stores? I’ve been thinking of adding some to my bedroom to make a feature wall.

That looks great! I love the horizontal boards you are using. We have the same problem with wall paper in our house, and in our foyer is awful worn ugly 1970′s grasscloth. My husband says we can’t just go over it with beadboard(I would love horizontal planking there!) because of the molding but I don’t understand why not.

Just stopped by as your newest follower. I just had to be a follower so I can find out what the bathroom looks like when it’s done! Love the boards so far…..

Hi Wendy!! Thank you for your comment. They aren’t the big 4×8 sheets. I saw some nice 4×8 sheets and almost went that route, but I couldn’t find any in our store without beat up edges. We ended up going with the type that have approx 3 strips hooked together in 8 ft long pieces. They sell them at Lowe’s and Home Depot. We almost just did one wall in our bath, but ended up doing it a bit more to cover up some outlet changes and an old medicine cabinet.

Maybe he’s thinking the board will stick out more than the trim. We ended up changing the trim in our bath. I’ve seen people paint grasscloth and it looks kind of cool….just a thought…but If it’s all worn it might not work.

Thank you for the follow…Bliss ranch!!! We are going to order the counter tops tomorrow along with the lighing. It might take another month for it to totally get done. I think it’s going to be my new favorite room!!!
