Today I was at Home Depot and got a glimpse of the new Martha Stewart cabinet line ….they looked really pretty! The clerk gave me a catalog and I snapped some photos for you in case you haven’t seen them. I’ve been wanting to update our kitchen for awhile. When we moved in the first thing we did 6 years ago was paint our cupboards and change out our hardware. Since then, it has pretty much been on hold…other projects and things in life cause lack of motivation. Since I have been starting to feel better I’m gaining some motivation. Even though we won’t replace all of our cabinets in our kitchen I’m thinking about a few changes and after seeing this new line….Martha looks like a great choice with good options! I really want to add some glassed doors, more open shelves and beefed up corbels… along with a few new upper cabinets…. I think the great thing about painted cupboards is the fact that you can add to them and paint out the new ones to match and it all flows…. even if they are a different color. I’ll have to price compare with a local cabinet maker to see what my best cost option is.
PS. I heard they are also going to start selling her drapes/curtains in late Sept….I’m kind of excited to see those.
This is the only store display they have at our local store right now (photo below). I’m hoping they do larger examples. Loving this pale yellow….
Nice baseboards and beautiful extras like these fantastic corbels!!
No wasted space…here’s a cute end cabinet message center…
Really pretty potting station….
She shows you color ideas and has matching paint.
Plus special corian coordinates. I’m curious about pricing…the salesperson didn’t have any pricing info because it is so new… I’m so happy that they share the paint colors…. I’m really liking the yellow and green and have been thinking of doing one of them on the island.
Speaking of kitchens….I have been working on our kitchen back splash today and I’ll share a sneak peek. I’ve had bead-board wallpaper sitting in a box for the last 6 months waiting for me to use it. Well, the last few days I have been car less and felt motivated to get at it…. I’m putting the paper right on top of the Formica (sort of a temporary fix in my mind). They used the same thing on the back splash as they did on the counter. I’m not sure when we are replacing the counters. … I want to do something to the black edge, maybe paint it…. I’m not sure how well it will last. If anyone has ever done it can you please offer advice 🙂
Pic of our current kitchen counter and back splash:
after peek 🙂 one section done with the help of this product…..I know this is nothing new to blogland but just decided to share just in case you haven’t seen paintable beadboard wall paper. I’ve looked at another type and it didn’t have the same depth in the grooves, this looks very realistic! I noticed on the Home Depot website that Martha has her own paintable beadboard wall paper. I haven’t seen it in person to compare it.
…several more to go…. 🙂 Good news is it only took just over 10 minutes. I still need to paint it but it doesn’t look bad as is….
There is a little metal trim on the left side and at the bottom, I left it there for now….. I’m still working on an idea to protect the bottom from water…this section isn’t near the sink.

Jnet,
Purestyle is a product name given to certain thermofoil doors across all of Masterbrands’ cabinet lines…Diamond, Kemper, Aristokraft, etc. Those doors are typically assembled after the individual pieces have the laminate already applied, rather than the old thermofoil doors that bonded laminate over a CNC-routed particleboard core. The new method allows for more detail definition, but in a mortise-&-tenon jointed door there has to be edgebanding applied which I am not a fan of. The mitered joint doors look nice, though.
Masterbrand has limited the other lines’ Purestyle-labeled doors to white or off-white w/ a dark glaze. It looks like there are a lot of nice colors that this Purestyle is produced in. They will probably continue to be exclusive to the MS label for some time.
I am an independent dealer and have not seen any spec information on the MS line but it looks to me (the non-Purestyle colors on Weston) to possibly be an HPL (high-pressure laminate..same type as what goes on countertops). That is typically what you see with cabinets that have a woodgrain laminate. Horizontal grain is popular on slab doors and they probably had to go look for that laminate from a different supplier, so they couldn’t call it “Purestyle” for trademark reasons. No reason to think it is inferior, though.
I could ask my Masterbrands’ rep…he reps for all product lines, box stores included.
Rick.

I ordered 13 of the MS OxHill Purestyle cabinets in Decebmer. I was told it would take 4 weeks (down from 8 weeks the previous month) for delivery. It took 6 weeks – no big deal in the big picture. However, of the 13 cabinets, 3 were damaged. All of the damage was to the particleboard sides (standard MS cabinets are only 3/8″ particleboard, not plywood) either being broken at the bottom corner, or blownout near the middle. None of the cardboard boxes from these 3 cabinets showed signs of damage from shipment so I suspect that they were already damaged at the factory. We ended up installing 2 of the 3 because the damage didn’t compromise the structural integrity of the cabinet and would not be visible once installed. The 3rd one we sent back along with one cabinet where saw marks (which had been painted over) were clearly visible on the face frame. Another cabinet was reordered because HD ordered wrong depth. Replacement for damaged cabinets came in about 2 weeks. The re-oder of the wrong size cabinet took other took 3 weeks (eventhough they were all reordered at the same time) and it was severely damaged when it arrived. The back panel was split in two different places, faceframe split, and side panels cut out for the recessed toekick is not square (this is freestanding cabinet – 3 sides visible). Again, no visible damage to cardboard box (shipped in a box within a box) so given the type of the damage and the fact neither box showed problems, damage had to have been done before it left factory. While HD took care of this right away and reordered replacement, it’s going to take another 2-3 weeks for delivery – total time from original order will be 3 months. So, while the Purestyle is a great look, had I known then what I know know about the quality of the standard cabinet boxes I would have upgraded to plywood boxes.

Well I took the plunge on the Martha Stewart cabinets! Fell in love with them as soon as I saw them at HD. Went with the Dunmere style in sharkey gray. The selection of corbel’s, decorative legs and feet are amazing. Definetly higher end look on a very reasonable priced cabinet. Went with my dream countertop… white carerra marble (actually designed the whole kitchen around this countertop). Running out of time and HAVE to pick out my floor this week but still on the fence. Can’t decide between MS International Hampshire Slate or Marazzi stone collection in Anthracite… please please.. any suggestions or opinions.
Figured I would use the backsplash to make the kitchen pop by using a glass tile in a bold blue?? Kitchen is not very big (10×16), but nice touch is a set of french doors that look out onto the backyard pool (a must in Florida), hence the thought of pulling some bright blue into the kitchen. Lastly will do stools along island in a blue toile and have several pieces of blue salt glaze pottery to display.

Learning about renovating a kitchen was very difficult in regards to budget and making so many careful decisions…for a small kitchen I decided to do something different and chose to go with Martha Stewart kitchen cabinets in pure style Skylands in Sharkey gray. Prior to purchasing the design consultant at home depot was very helpful and allowed me o look at the specification book on the cabinets. Those who choose to buy Martha’s cabinets needs to know that they can be upgraded to plywood instead of the MDF material, which in turn is a better structure and you know the cabinet box and shelves are real wood. EXCEPT the doors are MDF material. Its been 2 weeks now so still waiting for them to come in.

have any of you finished your kitchen installation with the Martha Stewart cabinets? I just saw them over the weekend and was impressed with the colors and styles. But I would like to know what is the result after 6 months or a year (or longer).
Rachael says
We have almost finished installing our Martha Stewart cabinets in the picket white, in the wainscott style, we installed most of them and they are beautiful, I am in love. They really seem like a great quality cabinet. We even ordered a couple of the super cabinets and they are excellent. Unfortunately, there were a couple of mistakes made, one was that for the super cabinet to function properly, the door needed 12 inches of clearance on either side in order to open, and on one side of the door we had our dishwasher so we had to take one of the racks off. Apparently, they have now updated their literature to reflect this information. Also one of our super cabinets was for a peninsula and so the back is visible and again the literature was a little misleading because it seemed to say that the back would be finished, but it wasn’t. Anyhow, these are issues that we could live with…
However, now it comes time to install the uppers that look the first picture in this blog entry, there are 3 drawers and two doors and the cabinet sits on the countertop. Well, this cabinet is total crap, there’s just no other way to say it. The hardware is too big, the drawers weren’t installed properly because it’s a small drawer and doesn’t have enough weight in it to balance the drawer and my husband installed cabinets once upon a time, so he knows what he’s talking about when he descibes this as a design flaw.
So, we want to order a different cabinet, so far MS and Home Depot have insisited that they will only replace cabinets with the same product. Plus, apparently, noone is interested in coming out to inspect the product themselves. So we may have to wait two weeks for a MS rep to contact Home Depot who will then contact us, if that’s the case I will most likely lose it. So, I am not impressed with the customer service so far, however, they may still rectify the situation.
Just an FYI for those looking at these cabinets, I feel that these cabinets that sit on the counter are really part of the unique Martha Stewart look and feel and I wish the quality matched…

My Martha kitchen just completed and it’s fabuloso! Martha’s cabinets are superior in every sense of the word….style, quality craftmanship, and functionality. Honestly, I am over the moon every time I walk into the room. The Home Depot kitchen expert helped me design floorplan and the kitchen appears so much larger. Others in my condo bldg. have said this and they have same unit! BTW, we installed 2 carousel cabinets at either end of room, and they are amazing….I’ve fit all baking dishes, mixing bowls and all appliances in just one carousel. Martha is a genius and she chooses quality companies to manufacturer her products. JK, Sunny Isles Beach FL

Joan–I just saw your comment and would love to talk to you more about your experience (or anyone else who has received/installed their Martha kitchen). We ordered our Martha cabinets a few weeks ago and are having some second thoughts after we saw a poorly designed display at a larger HD store–if you are open, I’d love to email you to ask you a few questions. If you see this and would not mind, please shoot me an email at karahewitt5 at yahoo dot com. Thank so much!

I has taken 8 months to install MS cabinets – including getting replacements for all the damaged, dinged and improperly put together pieces. There appears to be a total lack of quality control in the North Carolina manufacturing facility. I am appalled that Thomasville would put their name to this type of shoddy construction and production. Too bad, the concept, colors and styles are great.
Cate says
Hi Kara– interested to hear what decision you made; we are in the same position. Appreciate your follow up/feedback.
Thanks!

Hi ladies,
We are considering using Home Depot to renovate our kitchen…should I be concerned? I’m reading nothing but bad reviews between damamged cabinets , wrong measurements, shoddy customer service, HD not standing behind the work, bad sub contractors and order delays and more reordering due to damage. Should I spend the extra money and have less headache by going with an independent kitchen store/contractor where all they do is kitchen work. I was trying to keep my cost down but it seems with HD I may have more of a heart ache than a warm heart in the end.

Dee,
I know people that work in the Home Depot kitchen dept. at our local store and they do good work. As much as I feel bad for those who have had a problem, I still believe there are many more that have success…they just don’t take the time to write. Best wishes on a beautiful kitchen, whatever you decide to do.

We just finished installing 19 of the Martha Stewart Seal Harbor cabinets from Home Depot, we didn’t have any measurement problems (I did the mearurements myself). The cabinets aren’t painted, they are laminated and scratch easily. Master Craft (not Thomasville) is a mass producer so with this in mind do not get the particle board, upgrade to plywood if you can afford it. They came packaged well, though several of the hinge screws were stripped (self tapping from assembly line), they did send upsized replacement screws with. Originally was given a 3-5 week delivery window, showed up in 8, apparently they are holding these at the border for some reason (shipped to Canada). Home Depot kitchen department was pretty good. Personally I would have used a local supplier, but my wife just had to have these particular cabinets. They do look good installed, price was reasonable and there are a lot of options. Had to replace one pantry door as they weren’t lined up at center (replacement wasn’t either). The biggest problem with Home Depot is they have inexperienced staff, but usually there are one or two ex-contractors in the store somewhere, once you get a line on them, there are few problems. If you are going with an oversized apron sink, the 36″ cabinet will still need to be modified to hold a 33″ sink, check your plumbing drains if renovating, we ended up destroying a couple of maple carousels in order to get the drains run (in hindsite should’ve just got a standard corner cabinet.

Hi,
Ok I read all the reviews and I’m holding my breath and taking a chance. I fell in love with the Martha Stewart display at Home Depot. We are ordering our cabinets this Sunday. I realize I am taking a chance but I’ll keep you posted. We have a pretty small kitchen so cannot really order too many cabinets. Holding my breath…. Christina

I’m with you Christina….. if I could order a new Martha kitchen I totally would. I’m in Love with the display and her counters and hardware!!
Hopefully there won’t be any problems!
I did hear that you have to order extra counter for the corners, because there is a pattern match.
Let us know how it goes…

All of the comments are pretty scary, but I too love the look. We are remodeling a house for my daughter to rent from us and we are waiting for an estimate from a cabinet maker. My problem is that I can’t get ANY idea about the cost of these MS cabinets. I can’t drive because of back surgery- but I thought I could find out online. It’s a very small kitchen- maybe 10 by 11 and I fell in love with the beadboard (picket fence) look with an island. If anyone can give me ANY sort of range I would appreciate it. I’m assuming most people let them install also.

Hi,
I have just ordered $12,000.00 worth of Martha Stewart cabinets, and can not obtain a sample of the wood I picked out. I have been to all the Home Depot stores in Edmonton, Alberta and they all tell me that they have asked the company for samples with no response.
I am trying to pick out granite counters and hard wood flooring and would like a sample .
Could someone please help me.
Thank you

Maybe you could locate the rep for your area. It seems like a rep left a comment above…maybe you could email him.

We have ordered our Martha Stewart cabinets (Seal Harbor in Sharkey Gray) and are awaiting their arrival this week. We opted not to upgrade the wood because we figured it wouldn’t be visible and we don’t plan to stay in our condo much longer. We are hoping the kitchen remodel (in addition to the rest of our first floor) will really increase the sale price of our condo. But now I am worried after reading these reviews.
Our HD rep told us over and over how he wasn’t very familiar with the MS cabinetry line. He said it’s because the line is fairly new, but we were his first MS customers. He was, however, very helpful throughout the entire planning process. I am more than confident that if there is an issue when the cabinets arrive that he will be able to assist us in rectifying the situation.
I just pray that none of them are damaged! We have gone through this remodel with minor setbacks all along the way. I would just love it if something went completely right!
Will keep you all posted.

Thank you Gretchen! I would love to hear back from you! I’ve always had great service from the HD folks!!

Our HD kitchen designed advised us yesterday 7/12/11 against ordering MS cabinets with the painted – look fronts. These fronts are covered in a thin film of rubber-like material which gives them their color such as Sharkey Grey and white. The thin film is called Purestyle TM. He showed us how it was already knicked on the HD sample door in the display. How would we repair the knicks in the material? Can’t paint over it. I was really sad because the main reason I picked MS was for the sharp looking Seal Harbour cabinets. I love them.
So the HD kitchen designer gave me books for the Woodmark and Thomasville cabinets to look at and recommended them. He also said a thermafoil door was extremely durable. You could even scrub it with a steel wool pad.
However, when I looked at the Woodmark white cabinets, they used Purestyle TM also! The HD rep did not realize this.
Anyone have recommendations on how to repair knicks in the Purestyle TM cabinet doors once the covering starts to peel off? I imagine just knicking it with a ring, or having a tricycle bang up againist it, would be enough to knick the door and start the covering peeling off.
Roberta

We are redoing our kitchen with the MS cabinets which looked great in Home Depot. The problem is they have made four deliveries of cabinets which have all been damaged. They have finally got all the cabinets right except for one, which they delivered wrong again. Home Depot is fantastic as they are going to bat for us against MS. The MS company talks a good quality game but can’t seem to deliver

I am a kitchen designer at home depot. i am reading above that a designer told a customer NOT to get MSL cabinetry. now, thats just really bad salesmenship and poor training to discourage a customer like that! also, american woodmark does NOT have purestyle, they have regular laminate that is heat shrunk on, not individually wrapped… just an fyi! KNOW THIS*** if a martha stewart door (or even thomasville) gets damaged, the company will replace this. as long as you didnt hit it with a hammer, kick it in anger, or do it on purpose, just tell them a door is damaged, and they will send you a replacement!! they have great warranty and great reps! (well, mine is great…) DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED!! ALL COMPANIES HAVE ISSUES SOMETIMES, AND YOU KNOW HOW THE SAYING GOES… THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE!!
bargain hoot says
Thank you for your comment Jessica! I thought it sounded strange that a Home Depot salesperson would tell someone not to get MS cabinets. That is bad sales and they shouldn’t be working that department.
If I was able to get a new MS kitchen I would 🙂 They look fantastic! I know there are some who have had problems, but I’m sure that is with any cabinet company…..plus..they resolve the issues.

We ordered our MS cabinets (Dunemere, Ocean Floor for the base and Picket Fence for the wall cabs) about three weeks ago and I’m holding my breath that they will be delivered on time in the promised 4-6 week window and without any damages! Will report back on our experience. Good luck everyone!

We ordered Seal Harbor cabinets in Sharkey Grey and are being delivered here on Thursday, Aug 18th and due to start installation the following week. Loved the look and perfect for our lakefront home in Maine. I will let you know how everything comes out – our salesperson in Home Depot was excellent – very helpful. We were told the delivery time would be approximately five weeks, and they are being delivered on Thursday of the sixth week.
Would love to hear from Gretchen above??? She was getting the same product a few weeks ago.

I also think it shows a definite lack of customer service that MS does not provide samples of its cabinet colors. So after I ordered I went to MS paints and found a chip that pretty much matches the Ocean Bottom color cabinets I am using. The chip is large, I’d say 2.5 x 5 or so, and I’ve been using it to check counters, floors and paint options. It’s not perfect, but very, very close. Good luck everyone!

My new MS cabinets are in production; ordered Dunemere in Picket Fence. I did read all the comments here and still went thru with it. I did choose another brand for the corian counters, didnt see a MS that I was in love with. So anxious to see what my experience will be after reading about others. Good luck to us all!! I was never even shown any accessories or upgrades at HD

I’m happy to report that the cabinets have been installed in my kitchen without any problems whatsoever, although Hurricane Irene slowed things a bit this week with a 3-day power outage at my home. Cabinets arrived on time, no damages during packaging or shipping, and everything that I ordered was in the shipment. I expect the Corian to be placed on the cabinets within a week, and after trim work, painting, and plumbing, the kitchen will be complete. Just wanted to report a positive feedback to calm a few of you who may be skeptical about ordering the MS line. By the way, they look great!!! Will send a final review soon – good luck to all of you!

PLEASE CALL ME / GET BACK TO ME. I BOUGHT 30″BASE CABINET FOR FARMERS SINK, WHAT SIZE SINK DO I BUY, PEOPLE AT HOME DEPOT DO NOT KNOW??????????????????
Kathryn says
Connie,
I hope you get this information in time. I’m sorry the designer at your store did not have the information you needed about the sink. Any sink 27″ or smaller should work as long as the apron front is less than 13 1/2″ tall. Otherwise, it will interfere with the door. And for future reference, you can always visit homedepot.com/designconnect and click on the link to speak with a designer to answer any questions. They have to respond within 48 hours. Hope this helps!

We did it ordered a whole new kitchen from Home Depot the Martha Stewart line. Installed today. I just went around and labeled all the problems about 10 of them. Drawers that won’t close correctly, drawers with the piston missing for the quiet close, cupboard doors that refuse to line up properly, staples everywhere. Draw faces not put on properly. The concept is good but quality control is C%^&.

Just had my installers in to hang my MS particle board cabinets- wish I had come onto this web-suite first and went with the plywood. If you are in the process of ordering MS cabinets, STOP and think- do I really want to pay for kitchen cabinets that look worse than the kitchen cabinets I am replacing that are 13 years old? I am stuck as I don’t have a kitchen, if you haven’t torn yours out yet, at the very least go with plywood- that’s going to be my next step.

Sorry to hear you are unhappy.

Well I have half of my Dunemere Picket Fence installed; they discovered a water problem and would not install the base cabinets, for which I am grateful!! I love the cabinets, no problems whatsoever!! I will have to pay an extra charge for the installers to come back but it was unforeseen. Couldnt be happier with the total look!! I also painted the walls with MS Picket Fence paint. I’m in the Chicagoland area by the way, wonder if location has anything to do with positive or negative experiences??

I love all these comments. We bought some of the MS cabinets at a local cabinet place that I guess they got from an overstock. We only bought 5. I don’t have a local home depot. I was just wondering what the average prices you are paying for the wall cabinets? Just trying to get a rough estimate before I go. Any help would be appreciated.
Kelli says
we purchased the Martha Steward cabinets about 4 months ago and installed them 7 weeks later. They were late and the guy at Home Depot ordered the wrong lazy susan cabinet so we had to wait for that to be replaced. They had no problem replacing it. We upgraded to the plywood, but were disappointed to find out that the fronts were still MDF. It is susceptible to water damage easily. We already have a corner that warped without hardly any water getting into the corner. Other than that, i love the look and function of the cabinets, but feel if we paid for the upgraded wood cabinets they should have MDF fronts.
We had no issues with damaged goods on arrival, they were packed very well and my husband installed them. We did purchase a small 5 drawer cabinet that wasn’t at all like any of the other cabinets and didn’t fit the profile at the base as the others. My husband, a contractor, had to completely retool the cabinet so it would fit in line with the others.
We paid $8k for 12 cabinets and we got a lot of incentive deals at Home Depot for purchasing that many. We ended up with our farm house sink cabinet being free.
Kelli says
i will also add that you should not order the standard cabinets, they are awful. The lazy susan they sent us was not the upgraded plywood we ordered, so they replaced it, but we were really surprised at how poorly constructed it was. I don’t think I would like my cabinets as much if they were the standard cabinets. Definitely get the plywood!

My husband and I ordered the purestyle cabinets in white in august… delivery was faster then expected… our kitchen remodel took longer than expected so we just got done installing the cabinets… some of the issues we had are due to lack of knowledge from the HD rep and some are due to poor quality. Our HD rep had us order a 30 sink base for a 30 farmhouse sink… obviously that didn’t work and we needed to order a smaller sink… also two of the cabinets came with cracks in the boxes… having someone today come and look at them to see if we could get replacements… also the track for the garbage pull is not working, hopefully will get a replacement for that too… Love the look the cabinets… and know that they were more budget friendly then buying some other brands… but still dissappointed with the quality for the $$$ we did spend. Also the corbels although beautiful are no more than just for show… we ordered 2, and were told by the HD rep that they would support a granite counter… not even close… my husband had to build a frame to support the granite…. luckily HD was good and said I could return the 2 corbels (600 dollar show pieces) which I will be doing. Like them but not if they are not performing any real function for that kind of money!
