napkins for pillows & tablecloths for drapes

November 8, 2010

We were working on my DIL’s Christmas PB pillows yesterday.  I wanted to share with you the napkins she picked for the pillow project….aren’t they cute! I’m going to pick up some green plaid ones for my FR pillows. …. I might even try to paint on a monogram. 🙂 I also want to share that the beauty of using hemmed napkins is that the pillow cover process is so quick and easy…especially when you do a pocket method. Once the pocket side is complete you just match up your edges, pin, ….using the existing stitch as your guide…. sew a 1/4 of an inch closer to the edge of the napkin. The napkin might not match up perfect but it is close. If one napkin is a bit bigger just make sure you use it for the front facing side. I hope that makes sense 🙂 This can take under a half hour once your machine is set up.

The one on the far left is a Christmas pattern that looks like this:

priced at:

To save $$ she picked a contrast stripe for the reverse side, on sale for:

The cute red Paisley pattern will be the same on the front and back and be used in her FR….it’s on sale:

I also wanted to share that I picked up a couple 60 x120 tablecloths at Bed Bath and Beyond thinking I would use them for drape panels for fall… maybe even Christmas( I need long panels for my FR window).

Think of the standard tablecloth sizes and compare to your window needs:

The thing is…I’ve decided they cost a bit more than I want to spend for the look(even with the B&B 20% off )

So I shall take them back and see if I am still interested after the markdown…. I know they won’t be lined but my drapes are only used as decorative panels on each side of my window and I never close them, so that’s not an issue for me….plus it is a really quick change since they are already hemmed all the way around the edge.  I just take them from the package, iron them and hang.  If you need to close your drapes just use the pinch style rings for your rods and pinch an inexpensive drop cloth to the backside….. Or get a standard white/cream tablecloth on sale and use it for the liner.  Try a round or oval table cloth cut in half for those difficult arched windows. I just wanted to mention this idea just incase you come across some great fabric tablecloths at wonderful prices….. PB has tablecloths marked down in the red buffalo check I posted about here…..they would be cute for window treatments..  The thing that originally got me outside of the box for fabric needs was this awesome  clearanced tablecloth from Walmart (that I purchased about 5 months ago)

….. no maybe it was my son and DILove’s wedding… or maybe my friend Pam’s daughters wedding where we used a black and white damask print shower curtain for a table cloth 🙂

Of course you know of my obsession with all things PB. Love the outlet prices. I’m not allowed to go into the Outlet anymore. Once I bought a bench & we couldn’t get it home because we had a little 2-door honda. Now we have a CRV & the Mr. promised we can go to the outlet after Christmas for sales. LOL

Dancy….I have worried about not being able to fit outlet purchases in the car….. hope it wasn’t a final sale. We’ve had our wagon packed so tight, we couldn’t see out the back…
That CRV will make shopping a lot easier 🙂

[…] First you decide on a font and enlarge it on the computer screen. Below I snapped a picture of my computer screen with the letter I used. If you look close you can see the font name and size…I also increased the image to 200 %. I wanted the font approximately 3.5 inches tall. The pillow shown is a 20inch square fill area. PB has 20″ napkins in this pattern…but when you sew the 20″ napkins…and you figure your seam allowance it becomes more like an 18 inch fill area. If you use the napkin size, I would make my letter more like a 3″ Check out the napkin pillow post here. […]
