ingredients:
1 rescued argyle felted sweater
Time to hack into this thing…
I detached the collar from the back of the sweater.
Now it’s starting to look like something…
Here it is stitched up with the collar band used for the top edge. I decided to lay it out this way because I like the way the buttons look down the one side of the stocking….
Next, fingerless mittens:
Slice off the arms and try the sleeve on… pulling the cuff where you want it.. When I tried mine on, the sleeve above the cuff seemed a little big, so I took that part in a little…. some sweaters you won’t need to.
Next, I trimmed the excess off and tried the sleeve on positioning it where I wanted it to be.
I pinched in between the thumb and the pointer finger and held that together while I pulled the sleeve off. Keeping my fingers on that spot, I then placed a straight pin in for a visual guide and sewed a straight line in about 2 inches and back out. Then I snipped in between the two sewn lines to create the spot for the thumb
Next I folded the top unfinished edge over and double stitched it down.
And there you have it….
The next example is with a felted sweater….you litterally cut the sleeve off and sew between the thumb and pointer and you are done!! I trimmed the sleeve down a bit from what the picture shows. It seemed a little long..

Okay, I’m going to pretend you didn’t just say “cashmere” in the same subject as “cutting up sweaters”. 🙂
Love the sweater pillows and stockings by the way.

Love this idea! So cute! Wish I could sew, nope, not even a straight line. Some of us are meant for other things I guess… lol
