Do you have yucky looking stoneware?
Mine looked nasty so I decided to toss it and buy new. I sure wish
I had seen this blog post on how to clean stoneware before I trashed mine.

She used the self cleaning cycle in her oven!!!
Please read her disclaimer and all her advice on exactly how to do it.
I guess there is a possibility of cracking. Most people didn’t have a problem,
but someone did. It would have been worth it for me to give it a try, because I
was going to get rid of mine anyway.
Just for fun.

I know that a cooking stone doesn’t look “pretty,” but consider the ugliness to mean that your stone has been seasoned! I’ve found that with age comes discoloration, but my food also slides on and off easier and actually tastes better! If you can withstand the color, keep your stone and save your money!! We’ve been using the same stone every Friday for over 3 years and it gets better with age!

Hi Tiffany,
Thank you for the encouragement to keep the seasoned stone…. What do you usually cook on your stone and how does it actually taste better?
I’m just trying to understand how a taste difference can actually be noticed…. hmmm you have me thinking.
