If your dad or husband are anything like my dad and husband, no matter what gift you get them, they’ll put a smile on their face and say a sincere, “Thank you.” However, if you asked them what they wanted, they would probably say, “Whatever you want to get me” and then after some prodding for a more specific answer, “something practical” or “something I can use.” Sometimes my husband will actually get specific and give me a list. That’s the BEST! But when it comes to Father’s Day on a budget, sometimes those lists are full of expensive tools, toys or other “practical” items. So this year, as I talked to my husband about what to do for him, (since my son is only 15 months and can’t really do much for him by himself at this point,) he expressed the desire for something practical that gives him a break at the same time. So I found some really cool ideas to accomplish both of these goals.
Couch Potato Basket: I found this awesome gift on Darling Doodles. Fill a basket with munchies, a new game or DVD, and a tag that gives Dad permission to sit back, relax and enjoy his day.
Coupons: I Should Be Mopping The Floor has these super cute FREE printable coupons for Father’s Day! Give him one for the day and tell him he can use the rest at his leisure. You can put things on them like “No Chores for 2 days” or “Date night with Mom” or “Gaming night with guy friends only.” Or ask your kids for ideas (if they are old enough to talk ๐ ) Kids sometimes have the best ideas that you might never have thought of!
DIY Tool Buckets: My husband’s tool area is a little disheveled. He always says he’s going to organize it, but it’s not high on the priority list (which is understandable when you work as hard as he does) so it might be a while.ย This doesn’t bother me any, since they are at least out of the way, but I know he would really appreciate if I took the time to help him with it.ย If your husband’s tool area is like this too, how about saving him some time and help him organize by making these neat tool containers using this tutorial from Color Buzz? Maybe even buy a couple brand new tools like hammers, wrenches, and screwdrivers to put in them! I think this is the one that we’re going to do. ๐
Those tool buckets remind me of Rene’s sweet DIY Father’s Day Can Tutorial from a previous Father’s Day. You could fill the can with candy, tools, socks, ties, all sorts of practical, use-able things!
Whatever you do for your husband or dad for Father’s Day, make sure they know how much you appreciate them and how wonderful it is to have men who value fatherhood in our lives and the lives of our children! And let us know in the comments if you have any other fun Father’s Day gift ideas to share! ๐
